The start of the Buffalo theater season also revitalizes the local comedy schedule, as several stand-out standup shows mark the week of Sept. 13-19. Here are our recommendations for the week:

Joe List is one of those comedians you’ll likely hear more and more about in a few years. He is set to return to Buffalo’s Helium Comedy Club, the place where he recorded his 2016 album, “Are You Mad at Me?,” for five shows Sept. 13-15. List is the co-host of the weekly podcast, “Tuesday with Stories,” and has appeared on several television comedy shows like “The Tonight Show,” “Late Night with David Letterman” and “Conan.”  List will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 13 and 7:30 and 10 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15. Tickets range from $17 to $32. Info: buffalo.heliumcomedy.com

The “Friday Night Laughs” comedy series returns for another season at the Tralf Music Hall in downtown Buffalo for shows at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Sept. 14. This month’s showcase features performers from “The Wild’N Buffalo Cast Comedy Tour,” including Emmanuel Hudson (a cast member of the “Wild’n Out” show on MTV), Darren “Big Baby” Brand and Kelly K-Dubb. General admission tickets are $40. Info: tralfmusichall.com

It’s possible that you may recognize David Kaye’s face, if not his humor. The comedian and actor has appeared on dozens of national commercials and television shows, from “Last Comic Standing” to “Mystery Science Theater 3000.” The veteran stand-up returns for two headlining shows at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Sept. 15 at Rob’s Comedy Playhouse in Williamsville. Tickets are $10 and $12. Info: robscomedyplayhouse.com
