Buffalo has warmly embraced a comedy resurgance in recent years, as national headlining acts continue to make stops in the area. Here are several noteworthy comedians scheduled to perform locally to highlight the fall season.

Eddie Izzard, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts, Amherst. With style, wit and honesty, Izzard has crafted a unique perspective through stand-up comedy. Now touring off the success of his 2017 book, “Believe Me,” Izzard is set to tackle his childhood, alternative sexuality, career, politics and even running. Chris D’Elia, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts, Amherst. The stand-up comedian, sitcom star and podcast host keeps quite busy. He’s currently the host of the “Congratulations with Chris D’Elia” podcast, starred in NBC’s “Undatable” and “Whitney” shows, and released a Netflix comedy special, “Man on Fire.” Tickets are $42 and $26. Maria Bamford, Sept. 29-30 at Helium Comedy Club. With her unique voice and point of view, Bamford continues to earn audience acclaim for her deeply honest comedy. Along with Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and Brian Posehn, Bamford’s career went to the next level with a spot on the “Comedians of Comedy” tour, television series and movie, and she also created and starred in the Netflix series, “Lady Dynamite.” Bamford is set for three shows at Helium with $25 admission. Trevor Noah, 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at at Seneca Niagara Casino Events Center, Niagara Falls. As the current host of “The Daily Show,” Noah’s South African roots give him a unique perspective on current events in the late-night comedy show universe. He’s also released several Netflix comedy specials and wrote “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood” that was a bestseller in 2016. Tickets range from $55 to $145. Tom Green, Nov. 23-24 at Helium Comedy Club: A few years before going viral on YouTube was a thing you could do, Canadian comic Tom Green quickly grew a following with his absurdist sketch comedy and prank show on MTV. He returns to Buffalo with four post-Thanksgiving stand-up comedy shows at Helium Comedy Club. Tickets are $26 and $34. Info: buffalo.heliumcomedy.com

Gabriel Iglesias, 8 p.m. Nov. 24  at Seneca Niagara Casino Events Center, Niagara Falls. Perhaps the best remedy for recovering from crowded holiday shopping is to spend an evening with “Fluffy.” Iglesias’ stand-up style includes stories, parodies, characters and sound effects to bring his personal experiences to life. Jason Mewes, Nov. 30 through Dec. 1 at Helium Comedy Club. Almost 25 years after their stoner comedy characters Jay and Silent Bob made their debut in the indy cult classic “Clerks,” both Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith have found a second life as onstage personalities. Mewes is set to make a solo appearance at Helium Comedy Club, telling stories about his life in movies and battles to overcome addiction. Four shows are scheduled, tickets $25 and $45.
