As a prelude to this fall’s opening of the John Labatt Project in the city’s Cobblestone District, Labatt USA has started a national search for a brewmaster.

The brewmaster will oversee operations at Labatt’s first U.S. brewery. The John Labatt Project will include a restaurant and pilot brewery for the beer making giant.

“We’re looking for a passionate brewer who is experienced in innovation and excited about creating more ways for people to experience Labatt beer,” said Glen Tibbits, Labatt USA general manager.

Tibbits said the Labatt Brewmaster will experiment and develop new beer styles in the pilot brewery. Customers will have the opportunity to taste and give feedback on the beers, influencing what styles Labatt rolls out more broadly throughout its U.S. footprint.

Brewmasters should have, approximately, 10 years experience and will select ingredients, create recipes and manage brewing production and quality assurance. Candidates must have completed courses from an accredited brewing science school or possess equivalent experience. The position will be based in Buffalo.

The John Labatt Project will help anchor Pegula Sports and Entertainment’s mixed-use project at 79 Perry St., a century-old, five-story, 70,000-square-foot building located across from KeyBank Center.

Labatt USA, currently headquartered in the 40-50 Key Tower Building, will be moving its U.S. headquarters the building this fall.
